General Advising Information

Registration

Early Admission Students
Early Admission Students with 24 hours of EARNED credit are advised by a Mennonite College of Nursing advisor. Those Early Admission Students will less than 24 hours of EARNED college credit are advised by their current academic advisor.

Prelicensure Students
Prelicensure Students are expected to attend group advising sessions with their assigned academic advisor during fall and spring preregistration periods. Fall class schedules will be reviewed in February/ March group advising sessions. Spring or summer schedules will be reviewed in group advising sessions held in September/October. Students will receive an e-mail at their Illinois State e-mail account with the times and dates of group advising sessions. Students following a non-traditional plan of study will be informed via e-mail of the need to schedule an individual advising appointment during preregistration periods. Registration blocks may be placed on students who fail to attend required advising meetings. Students are expected to bring a copy of their academic progress summary to their group advising appointment.

During preregistration students will only be allowed to register for the theory portion of their clinical courses. "Clinical" registration will take place in January (for spring clinicals) and June (for fall clinicals). Students should ALWAYS-ALWAYS-ALWAYS get a copy of the NEW schedule to verify that the registration transaction was effective.

Students should pay parking fines and library fines before registration, as this will prevent the hassle of getting blocked from registration. Health deficiencies may also result in delays with registration.

Progress Summaries

Students may pick up copies of their Academic Progress Summaries in Moulton Hall 107. There is no cost to the student, but a picture ID is required. Progress Summaries contain specific information relating to course deficiencies. Undergraduate students may also view their Academic Progress Summaries via the iCampus Portal.

Overrides

Individual overrides will NOT be given to accommodate requests for a specific clinical instructor or location. Clinical sections will be offered to accommodate all students who have registered for the theory portion of that course. However, students need to determine various clinical options, as their first choice may not be available.

General Education Requirements

Although students' files are reviewed for general education requirements prior to admission, students are ultimately responsible for tracking their progress and course deficiencies. The best ways to ensure students are completing the appropriate coursework are to read the university catalogue and attend individual or group advising sessions.

RN/BSN On-Line Students
RNs in the on-line sequence will receive registration information during designated preregistration periods.
