Coursework for the Doctoral Program

Plan of study

A plan of study is a listing of courses that will be taken by the student during the program. Students are required to take seventeen courses: eleven courses are core and focal area courses and six courses are research methods and elective courses. Courses are selected by the student in conjunction with their advisor. Student should develop a plan of study that will provide the student with sufficient depth of the methods and content needed to complete the dissertation study.

  • NUR 503 Theortical Basis of Nursing Research
  • NUR 505 Quantitative Research Design
  • NUR 507 Qualitative Research Design
  • NUR 509 Introduction to Nursing Informatics
  • NUR 511 Health Policy
  • NUR 513 Ethical, Legal & Professional Issues in Research

Required Focal area Courses (4 courses, 12 credit hours)

  • NUR 520 Biopsychological Research with Aging Individuals
  • NUR 522 Sociocultural Research with Aging Persons in Families and Communities
  • NUR 524 Research in Aging with Vulnerable Populations
  • NUR 526 Residency in Research with Aging Adults
