Joe Warner Teaching Nursing Home

Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University (MCN@ISU) and Heritage Nursing Homes have developed a partnership to implement The Joe Warner Teaching Nursing Home Project to:

  1. Create the structure needed to enhance collaboration among the institutions and carry out programs that support curriculum development, mentoring and recruitment to bring registered nurses into long-term care.
  2. Develop the Teaching Nursing Home “Sisters Model” to enhance collaboration among Heritage Nursing Homes and MCN@ISU to improve the education, mentoring and recruitment of registered nurses and registered nurse students in long-term care.
  3. Design curricular activities, clinical work and mentoring experiences to recruit registered nurse graduates into long-term care.
  4. Develop programs to increase the attractiveness of long-term care as a career choice for the registered nurse student, registered nurse graduate and registered nurses residing in the community.

The Joe Warner Teaching Nursing Home Project will provide Illinois and the nation with an exemplary model for a comprehensive education, mentoring and recruitment program to bring RNs into long-term care.
