Graduate Admission Requirements

Master of Science in Nursing Program

Interested applicants should possess the following qualities:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from an NLN-accredited program or from a program accredited by the commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE);
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate course work; to include courses in which the student is currently enrolled;
  • One official transcripts of all prior collegiate work from each college attended to be turned in to the Graduate School;
  • Evidence of satisfactory completion of statistics, nursing research, and physical assessment courses with a grade of a C or better at the baccalaureate level;
  • Satisfactory completion of a graduate level statistics course (300 level or above)*; and
  • Official scores from the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test (waive with 3.4 GPA or above for last 60 semester hours)

* Note: If not completed prior to entry into the program, provisional admission may be granted with the requirement that the graduate level statistics course be taken either before or concurrent with the graduate nursing research course.

Family Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Systems Administration, Clinical Nurse Leader , or Gerontological Nurse Practitioner

In addition to the MSN requirements above, two years of recent full-time relevant clinical or administrative nursing experience is preferred, but not required.

Nurse Educator

In addition to the MSN requirements above, Nurse Educator applicants should have:

  • Evidence of current enrollment in an accredited master's degree nursing program OR
  • Evidence of graduation from an accredited master's degree nursing program.

Certificate course credit cannot be used to satisfy MSN degree requirements at Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University.

Post Master's FNP Certificate

In addition to the MSN requirements, applicants must have:

  • A master's degree in nursing from an NLN-accredited program or from a program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE);
  • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for the graduate course work; and

One official transcripts of all prior collegiate work from each college attended to be turned into the Graduate School. Two years of recent full-time relevant clinical or administrative nursing experience is preferred, but not required.
