Pioneering realistic clinical simulations
Although students may apply to the Nursing Program beginning September 1st of the year prior to anticipated acceptance into nursing, there is currently a program in place that allows students to be accepted into the Nursing Program "early". This program is referred to as the Early Admission Nursing Program. Early admission status refers to a student who has been guaranteed a space in the Nursing Program upon successful completion of general education and prerequisite requirements specified by the college.
Students applying to Illinois State as a freshman may be considered for Early Admission into nursing by marking "nursing major" as the major of choice on the Illinois State application. Those students who are accepted into the Early Admission Nursing Program will receive an acceptance letter from the Illinois State University Admissions Office. Requirements to remain in this program include: earning a "C" or better in all required prerequisite courses and maintaining a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 on a scale of 4.0. Any student not adhering to the above criteria will be moved to General Student major status and will need to reapply to the nursing major during specified time periods. Students admitted via the Early Admission option must complete all of their prerequisite coursework and general education requirements at Illinois State University and not at an alternative college or university. Failure to do so could result in dismissal from the program.
Those freshman applicants NOT accepted into the Early Admission Nursing Program will receive notification from the Illinois State Admissions Office that they have been accepted into the university as a "General Student." In this instance, students may still choose to attend Illinois State as a "General Student" with the intention of applying to the Nursing Program beginning September 1st and before January 15th of the student's sophomore year and upon successful completion of 24 credit hours.
Students are accepted into the major on a competitive and selective basis. The number of students admitted into the major may vary from year to year depending on program capacity, enrollment targets, and qualifications of students in the pool.
