Prelicensure: Current Illinois State & Transfer Student Admission Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have completed (at the time admission, and not at the time of application) the Illinois State General Education Program or the Illinois Transferable General Education Program and the Mennonite College of Nursing prerequisite courses with a minimum of 56 total credit hours earned

    OR

    Have earned an Associates Degree in Arts or Science with all Mennonite College of Nursing prerequisite courses completed (at the time of admission, and not at the time of application).
  • Obtain a "C" or better in each of the Mennonite College of Nursing prerequisite courses to include Chemistry CHE 110/112 or 140, Statistics ECO/GEO/POS/PSY 138 or MQM 100 or Math 150, General Psychology PSY 110, Lifespan Development PSY 213, Microbiology BSC 160, Anatomy and Physiology I BSC 181, Anatomy and Physiology II BSC 182, and Nutrition FCS 102.
  • Complete both an Illinois State University admission application and a Mennonite College of Nursing admission application. Students may submit an application to Illinois State within one year of anticipated arrival on campus (i.e. if a student plans on transferring to Illinois State in the Fall of 2006, he/she may fill out an application for Illinois State University beginning September 1, 2005). NOTE: Students are encouraged to apply to Illinois State as early as possible as this will expedite the review of transcripts necessary for acceptance into the Nursing Program. Transcripts must be received by January 15 in order to be considered for admission. Students are responsible for verifying the completion of their admission file.

Transfer students may obtain an Illinois State University application for admission by downloading an application from www.IllinoisState.edu, applying on-line or picking up an application at Illinois State University's Admissions Office located in Hovey Hall.

Students may request a Mennonite College of Nursing application by emailing the , or by downloading the Acrobat file.

Although there is no minimum GPA required for application, only those students with competitive applications will be considered for admission. In Fall 2007, the average GPA of the admitted cohort was a 3.68.

The Mennonite College of Nursing Prelicensure Program only accepts students for fall admission. There is no spring admission into this program.

Mennonite College of Nursing Prelicensure applications are accepted beginning September 1 for admission consideration into the nursing program the following fall. Applications received prior to January 15 for admission consideration the following fall will receive preferential admission review. Student will receive feedback regarding their admission status by March 15th.

Students without a previous Bachelor's Degree are also encouraged to complete a global studies course prior to beginning the Nursing Program. See "graduation requirements" in the Illinois State catalogue for specific information relating to this global studies requirement.
